interoception

This weekend I caught myself repeating: I can't believe it's October, and with the wind, it does feel like October, and in New York, autumn has arrived. The way a warm soup or a cup of tea can feel so satisfying, I'd like our practices to feel satisfying and nourishing by moving in a way that works for you. Proprioception is knowing where you are and how you move in space, it's being able to flip a light switch on in a dark room without fumbling around, but interoception is, knowing where you are within yourself. Our yoga practice helps with interoception by listening to cues from our bodies and adjusting by using that information. Interoception is attention to sensations like hunger, thirst, muscle tension, and fatigue. Take extra care this week to nourish yourself: it can be a simple action like adding a blanket in Shavasana or padding under your knees for kneeling postures. It could be taking time to take time out to tune in to the senses.
